What is Lean Syrup?

“Lean” (also known as “purple drank,” “sizzurp,” or “dirty sprite”) is a recreational drug beverage made by mixing prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine with soda (often Sprite) and sometimes hard candy (like Jolly Ranchers). The combination creates a sedative, euphoric high, but carries serious health risks.

Key Components of Lean:

1. Codeine – An opioid that suppresses coughs and induces relaxation/drowsiness.

2. Promethazine – An antihistamine that enhances codeine’s effects but also increases sedation.

3. Soda/Sugar – Used to mask the bitter taste of the syrup.
